Our Plan For Education

Every Canberran deserves a great education.

That's why for our littlest Canberrans, we're doubling free three-year-old preschool.

For primary and high school students, we're building and upgrading new schools, providing free school meals and helping cover the costs of school with our Education Equity Fund.

And it's why we're making sure every Canberran can get the skills they need for the jobs they want by building the new Woden CIT and partnering with the Federal Government to deliver Fee Free TAFE.

It's all part of our progressive, practical and proven plan for education.

Doubling Free Three-Year-Old Preschool

Every little Canberran deserves the best start in life.

That's why Labor introduced one day per week of free three-year-old preschool.

And it's why if we're re-elected, we'll double it.

It's a big investment in the future of our littlest Canberrans.

And it'll save families $2600 too.

Upgrading Local Public Schools

We're committed to making every local public school a great one.

That's why we're upgrading 44 public schools right across Canberra.

It's why we're building news ones too - from the new primary school in Strathnairn to the second college in Gungahlin.

And it's why we'll keep working with teachers, parents and school communities to deliver the classrooms, play areas and spaces they need.

More Free School Meals

Kids can't learn on an empty stomach.

That's why we rolled out the Meals in Schools pilot across five local public schools.

And it's why if we're re-elected, we'll expand the trial to 20 schools.

It'll provide students with free breakfast and lunch, three times a week.

And it's all part of our plan to make sure every kid in Canberra gets a great education.

Expanding the Equity Fund

We know it can be hard to get money together for things like school uniforms and sports equipment.

That's why Labor started the Education Equity Fund to help families with the costs of school.

With payments of up to $750, it's helped over 5,000 students this year.

And if we re-elected, we'll expand the Fund to help even more students and families right across Canberra.

Building the New Woden CIT

We're building the new Woden CIT.

It's a big investment in local jobs and the future skills of Canberrans.

And it's on track to open next year.

It'll be a state-of-the-art education facility that'll skill up thousands of Canberrans every year.

And alongside Fee Free TAFE, we're making sure every Canberran can get the skills they need for the jobs they want.
