Governance & Transparency

ACT Labor is committed to best-practice governance and operating with transparency. We pride ourselves on being the most democratic and member-led branch of the Australian Labor Party. All our decision making processes are set out in our publicly available Party Rules, as are the processes for electing our office bearers.

The Party Executive

The ACT Labor Presidents are elected every two years by a party-wide ballot of members. The ACT Labor Secretary is elected every four years by a ballot of delegates to the Annual Conference. The Presidents and Secretary all sit on our Administrative Committee, which also includes another 16 members elected at our Annual Conference, and oversee the general administration of the party.

Annual Conference

Each year ACT Labor holds an Annual Conference which is the peak decision making body of the party. Conference delegates determine our Party Rules and Policy Platform, and elect a number of office bearers including the Administrative Committee.

ACT Labor's Annual Conference is usually held around the middle of the year. And because we are committed to running an open and transparent political party, Conference is open for any members of the public or press to observe. Labor is the only notable party in the Australia to open it's doors in this way, and we do it because we believe in transparent and democratic decision making.
